The Purpose
The homeowner needed to reduce the intense sunlight entering through two large windows with very different shapes and installation requirements.
Our team created a combined solution using a custom-fitted sun screen for the upper arched window and a manual roll-down shade for the larger lower window. Both were made with matching 90% solar-control fabric, creating consistent protection and a coordinated exterior appearance.
Exterior sun-control products help reduce heat and glare before sunlight reaches the glass, supporting greater indoor comfort and potentially reducing the home’s cooling demand.
The Challenge
The larger lower window was installed flush with the exterior wall, which made a traditional framed sun screen impractical.
Instead of forcing one product to work for both windows, our team selected the best solution for each opening. The upper arched window received a custom-shaped aluminum-frame screen, while the lower window was protected with a precisely fitted manual roll-down shade.
One Home, Two Custom Shade Solutions
Unique windows often require more than a standard one-size-fits-all product.
The arched screen was fabricated to follow the window’s curved shape, while the roll-down shade was mounted above the lower opening to provide complete coverage. Using the same fabric color and solar protection level allowed both systems to look intentional rather than mismatched.
Our sun screens can be fabricated in custom shapes and sizes with aluminum frames, while roll-down shades are available in manual and motorized configurations.
Flexible Protection Throughout the Year
The fixed upper sun screen provides continuous solar protection for the arched window. The lower manual shade gives the homeowner more control over when coverage is needed.
During Arizona’s hotter months, the shade can be lowered to reduce direct sunlight, glare, and unwanted heat entering the home. In cooler weather, the homeowner can raise it with the hand crank and allow more natural sunlight through the window.
- Two Coordinated Shade Systems
A custom sun screen and roll-down shade solved the different needs of each window.
- Matching 90% Solar Fabric
Both products provide consistent sun protection and a unified exterior appearance.
- Custom Arched Sun Screen
The aluminum frame was fabricated to follow the upper window’s unique shape.
- Manual Roll-Down Operation
Allows the homeowner to lower the shade during intense heat and raise it when sunlight is preferred.
A Practical Solution with a Finished Appearance
This project demonstrates why the right sun-protection system depends on the shape, placement, and construction of each window.
Rather than compromising with a single product, our team combined two custom solutions that protect the home and complement its architecture. The result reduces harsh sunlight while giving the homeowner greater control over indoor comfort and natural light.
