The Purpose
The homeowner’s backyard windows were reflecting concentrated sunlight toward the artificial turf. In Arizona, reflected heat from certain windows can create extremely hot areas capable of damaging or melting synthetic grass.
We installed custom SunTex 90 window screens to reduce the sun’s heat and glare before it reached the glass. The screens also help limit solar heat entering the home, creating a more comfortable interior and potentially reducing the demand placed on the cooling system.
The Challenge
Every window opening required precise measurements so the finished screens would fit securely and look like a natural part of the home.
Our team custom-built each aluminum frame to the individual window dimensions and selected frame and screen colors that complemented the exterior. With experienced measuring and fabrication, the screens were installed cleanly without distracting from the home’s appearance.
Protecting the Homeowner’s Artificial Turf
Artificial turf is a valuable backyard investment, but concentrated window reflections can expose sections of it to damaging heat.
By placing the solar screens on the exterior of the windows, sunlight is filtered before reaching the glass. Exterior shading is generally more effective because it intercepts solar energy before it enters or interacts with the window.
For this project, the screens reduced the intense reflection directed toward the backyard while preserving the finished appearance of the windows.
More Comfort Beyond the Backyard
Sun screens provide benefits beyond helping protect landscaping. SunTex 90 fabric is designed to block up to 90% of the sun’s heat and glare while still allowing outward visibility and daytime privacy.
Reducing solar heat gain through exposed windows can help keep interior rooms more comfortable and reduce cooling demand during Arizona’s hottest months.
