The Purpose
The covered patio provided overhead shade during much of the day, but the setting afternoon sun entered through the open sides and made the space uncomfortable.
The homeowner selected six manually operated roll-down shades with black solar fabric and 80% UV protection. Each shade can be lowered when additional coverage is needed and raised when the homeowner wants a fully open patio.
Exterior shades can also reduce unwanted solar heat before it reaches nearby windows and doors, helping interior rooms feel more comfortable and reducing strain on the home’s cooling system.
